University Contracts
Why are university contracts important for student organizations?
A “contract” (also referred to as an “agreement”) is a written document that is intended to be enforced by law. A contract has specific terms between two or more persons or entities and includes a promise to do, or not do, something in return for a valuable benefit.
Contracts are required for student organizations in order to legally protect students from liability issues.
All contracts, vendor proposals, or documents with terms or requiring signature, should be submitted through the University’s Contract Management System. The Office of Student Orgs coordinator is responsible for all student organization contracting.
Clubs are required to report any external/third-party services, performances, licensing, or rentals to OSO at least three weeks before event or start date happens, otherwise you cannot pursue any of these external providers.
If your student organization is working with anyone or any company external to UNC, paid or unpaid, you need a contract.
Students are NOT ALLOWED to sign, pay, or host any external providers for services, performances, licensing, or rentals without the OSO coordinator's approval. Clicking "accept" to terms and conditions online is also a form of signing a contract.
